My son started watching this show when he was 8 years old. Don’t get me wrong I was a bit skeptical myself but, here are my thoughts. Season 1 was pretty clean a bit of implied sexual behaviour, some making out, nothing to bad. Violence was a little edgy for a TV-PG rating. I’d say 9+ but good for mature 8 years olds who have seen PG action movies before. Season 2 is the same except there was barely any sexual behaviour. Season 3 got a bit more violent but, at this point your kid will be older. Season 4 and 5 amped it up to a TV-14 rating. Season 4 was more violent but good for kids who watch PG-13 action movies. Season 5 was different from all the rest. Quite violent, cruel and dark. There were three scenes that were really pushing the rating to TV-MA or TV-18. In the first scene Jemma was teaching a teenage girl how to use her powers so she can perform in a ceremony for the ruler. Turns out, the ceremony is really an inhuman fight tournament for money. They sent out a muscular killer who had murdered many people before, to fight the girl. The girl is seen being punched, having bones broken and being thrown against walls. All while she is screaming in pain and very scared. In the end she uses her powers and rips out the killer’s organs. Very jarring and uncalled for. Second one is really short. The team is working in a room when all of the sudden three aliens walk in ready to shoot and kill. Fitz clicks a button and a wire shoots out and slits the alien’s throats. We see their heads fall of their bodies. Gross and scary for kids. Third one is when Yo-Yo slices the head of the main bad guy in the second part of the season. We see her lying on the floor bleeding out with a deattached head. Shown several times to many. Let your kids watch the first 3 seasons alone. Watch 4 and 5 with them.
